Milestones of BRWS
1978 A students group provided medical relief to flood affected people in Midnapore and Howrah district.
1981 BRWS formally registered as a Society.
1983 Health Training for NGOs initiated.
1984 Comprehensive health care programme evolved out of start of Polyclinic. Worked for the Bhopal Gas Victims.
1987 Sanitation Programme added to health services. BRWS started functioning from own premises 279 Kendua Main Road, Garia.
1988-89 Project activity started in Majdea-Nadia.Patuli-Kolkata and Andharmanik 24 Parganas (s).Cyclone relief in Kantamari.
1989-90 Family Planning Operations began at the Polyclinic. Post flood relief work in Kantamari, Sundarbans.
1990-91 South Asia Co-ordination Centre for IBFAN established at BRWS
1991-92 Kankrajhore experiment began.
1992-93 Post flood work at the Purulia lepers colony.
1994-95 Participated at the Population conference in Cairo.
1995-96 Received MEU Japan International Award.
1996-97 Reproductive Health Programme for High School Students.
1997-98 Indoor Unit of the Hospital started.
1998-99 Eye Clinic for the rural people in Andharmanik and Jeadargot.
1999-00 Bed strength of Indoor raised from 4 to 10 in the Hospital.
2000-01 Transformation of Mahila Samity to SHGs.
2001-02 Birth rate lowered in most Rural Project area from 35 in 1988 to 14/thousand
2002-03 Inauguration of BRWS Hospital (OPD) at Ambuja Housing Complex.
2003-04 Relief work in Kankrajhore for starvation death. Initiation of Micro enterprise programme in Andharmanik area.
2004-05 Govt. decides to rebuild, the Mayurjharna Dam in Amlasole. as per BRWS’s guidelines.
2005-06 Pressure group activities resulted in begin of some Development activities in Amlasole, especially building of Mayurjharna Dam, with modus operandi as suggested by BRWS.
2006-07 SHGs linked to mobilise resources from Block office and Govt. Banks
2007-08 Belpahari rural project began
2008-09 Expansion of Agro Environment program, especially medicinal plants in Balichua – Belpahari
2009-10 Insurgency became obstacle to work, yet plantation continued with local farmers..
